Note:
Durations range from 4-5 weeks during the January term, to 12 weeks for summer, and 16 weeks for fall and spring terms. However, firms may tailor durations to the need of the firm.
Note:
It is important to invest in developing and identifying expected learning during the assignment to ensure successful outcomes. However, these do not need to elaborate or detailed. Nor does every activity during the intern's employment need to support them. And they can be achieved by students supporting, observing, or engaging in activities. Obviously, they should be experiential as much as possible. These can be general learning objectives related to business or entrepreneurial strategies or approaches, thinking entrepreneurially, sales or relationship management with prospects or customers, and participating in activities like strategic planning, brainstorming or problem solving, market assessments, feasibility assessments, customer discovery, business model development, operations management, report or business plan section development, and attending networking or fund-raising events. The need to deal with and the value of dealing with unexpected events and circumstances are understood. And the need for flexibility and pivoting are recognized as realities and important lessons for the intern.
Note:
These would include assignment of supervisor and mentor, initial meetings and orientation, frequency of meetings and interaction, office or cubicle assignment, training, reading, or other resources.
Note:
Mentor should be separate from supervisor if possible.
